Kildare Senior Cross Country November 29th 2015

The Kildare Senior Cross Country took place on the Curragh on Sunday November 29th in very stormy conditions. Despite this there was a strong showing by Newbridge athletes on the day.We had two mens teams running with the men’s A team winning silver. Brian Byrne ran a fantastic race to finish 2nd and Paul Archbold stormed into 4th in the final 400 followed closely by Paul Campbell who was 6th. Eoin Brett was 11th followed by Alan Sammon 12th, Ciaran Carr 13th, Justin Delmer 16th, Martin Dowling 21st, John Morrissey 22nd, Steven Loughlin 23rd, David Browne 24th, Adrian Donoghue 28th, Ken Heffernan 29th. It’s a testiment to the strength and depth of the mens senior club that the Newbridge mens B team finished in 4th in the team standings.

The ladies team won bronze with Aimee McGrath in 10th followed by Lisa Donlon 12th, Laura Gillen 14th, Allison Duff 15th, closely followed by Olivia Archbold 16th, Emma Boland 17th and Laura Vaughan 19th. Well done to all who took part!

The cold, blustery conditions meant that everyone was doubly grateful to the Newbridge AC Fit for Life crew who manned the refreshments tables. Hot drinks and some homemade treats accompanied the presentation of awards for the days events as well as for Kildare Championship Athletes of the Year.

A huge thank you to the officials who marked the course and tidied the course, those who helped with parking and directing the races and to the Defence Forces for allowing us to use their facilities.

It was fantastic to see all of the clubs who travelled in those conditions and we would hope to see them back again at future events. Thanks to all the athletes and their families for participating. Thanks to the photographers and all who turned up to support and cheer. It was a great way to finish off the championship season.
